Governor Dauda Lawal, of Zamfara state has described the election petition tribunal’s confirmation of his election victory as a clear expression of the will of the people.

Lawal secured a win in the March 2023 governorship election, defeating former governor, Mohammed Matawalle.

Earlier, the Zamfara Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto had affirmed the election of Lawal as the state governor.

In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman  Idris, on Monday in Gusau, it was emphasised that the tribunal’s verdict reflects the resounding choice made by the people.

“A while ago, Dauda Lawal was affirmed as the winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election at the Zamfara Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Sokoto. The judgement was not surprising but rather an affirmation of the collective decision made by the unwavering people of Zamfara,” the statement partly read.

Lawal polled 377,726 votes to defeat Matawalle who polled 311,976 votes.
